I plan to do my photo shoot on a weekend that I have free, and that is unknown. UPDATE: My photo shoot was conducted on Thursday, December 19th on a half day we had after school. These are some of the unedited results.

I am planning on doing the entire photo shoot in my backyard. I have a large backyard with plenty of different spaces for different photos. Here are my location ideas:

PLANNING: Interviews and Questions

I plan to interview people who feel they have been affected by reverse racism. Whether it be in the workplace, in public, or in private, I want to get the true feeling of what reverse racism is. After asking pointed questions, I feel that I can properly attack the article and deliver the truth about what reverse racism is, and if it truly exists and is an issue in today's society.

The questions are as follows:
1. Have you ever experienced prejudice in the workplace? What exactly happened and how did you handle the situation?
2. Why do you think reverse racism is becoming more of a problem?
3. What would you recommend happen to fight reverse racism?
4. Do you think reverse racism compares to what has been done to other minority groups?
5. How do you feel about the fact that whites will become a minority in the close future?

PLANNING: Flat Plan

The following is the flat plan for my magazine.

PLANNING: Table of Contents Template

The table of contents will be two pages worth, since this is a longer magazine. Again, I'm going to go for a minimalist design with my font and text placement, and I'm going to have maybe one or two photos. They will probably be different from my cover story photos, but I'm not sure what I wish to do yet. I might take a few photos with my models, posing them as youth leaders (think like Greta Thunberg, in a sense). I'll then put a caption underneath directing the reader to that "page" to read more about the models pictured. I can only submit one page of my two-page table of contents, however, so this is a snapshot of the entirety of the magazine.

PLANNING: Cover Template

I plan on using the website Canva for the template of my entire magazine. The website has a lot of different templates for various magazine genres, and it is incredibly easy to use. I have worked with Canva before in other classes, and my products always turn out to be very good.

For my cover, I plan on having a picture of a model with some type of black and white contrast. I have yet to decide on how that contrast is going to show, but I plan on mixing around with a number of ideas. One of my ideas is to have jet black paint (or perhaps eyeliner) streaming down the model's cheeks, as my cover story is called "Crying Black". This article is going to tackle the topic of reverse racism, and with this powerful topic I need an equally powerful photo. I also had an idea to do something similar to these two photos:

I would combine the placement of the hands from the left image with the color of the hands from the right image. I would need two models to do this with, and currently my selections are Laura Timms and Joshua Kroepfl.

I have yet to schedule a photo shoot with them, but I plan on trying to do it this Sunday (December 8th). I also want to stage a few more photos with the black and white contrast, most likely with prints of black on various limbs. I may also come up with a few other ideas, but currently that is my plan.

I also have a backup plan in case the school determines my topic as "inappropriate". I would then have my cover story be about protecting the environment, mostly from plastic. With that, I would also want to have an artistic photo shoot for my cover, and I was planning on incorporating plastic materials with one or both of my models. Most likely, something similar to this:

 

No matter what photo or cover story I choose to run with, I plan on using a minimalist design for my magazine cover. Most political or social activist genres I have seen have their signature title and font, and one photograph relating to the feature article inside. The other articles are smaller in font, normally a different style of font, and placed out of the way of the cover. With most magazines, article titles frame the model, who is featured in the middle. They are big and flashy and grab your attention. However, for my magazine, I hope that the artistic cover will capture a reader's attention. Currently, my magazine is entitled Riot. This is my most current cover design, which will soon be edited with my own photos after the shoot occurs.
